Sarah Jessica’s Carrie has been a fashion inspiration for all the Sex and City fans. She’s looked extremely fashionable and stylish during the entire show and had a very personalized style. But what made her so special?
Most of the brands, styles, celebrities that become fashion icons, have some key elements that they use.
I think these are Carrie’s
- Her Hair
Her hairstyle has been changing throughout the show, but she has most been knowing for her big curly hair, with beautiful bright highlights. Volume and a lot of highlights make her hair stand out and be part of the overall look / style. Quite often I would say her hair has been the center of her looks.
I love how the stylists of the show have experimented with her hair in different seasons. Even when her hair is not very big and curly, it is always catching attention. Be it large tight and high buns, or perfectly straightened silky ash blond there is always a lot of effort put in her hairstyles. Fresh and bright coloring and very meticulous hairstyles always have her look *pulled together*
- High Heels
Most of the show Carrie has been strutting the streets of New York on her high heels. I think she used fashion as a very powerful tool to make statements and to express herself. No matter what happened to her, she always remained true to her passion to fashion, she never lost herself. I think high heels were big part of her fashion identity. Would say Carrie’s second key code is designer heels, after her hair. The stylists have been very particular about her shoe choice, dressing her in expensive designer shoes that usually stood out. Most of them have high arch, which essentially makes them look very sexy and attractive and probably… impossible to walk in for long time.
- Accessories
Carrie’s accessories are also an interesting code. I like how she was wearing some accessories constantly by changing her outfits. Actually, I think it is a good style lesson from her. When you have a lot of accessories you don’t always have time to go over all of them and match them with every outfit every day. So what you can do is, wear your favorite item for a few weeks and then move on to next one. I use this principle sometimes and I love it. Of course as her style has been so versatile, they have been using different combinations on her. Like, sometimes no accessories at all when the outfit is standing out, or a large piece of accessory that is signature item, and the rest of the outfit is quite neutral.
- Variety
Her style has been changing during the show and it has been really interesting to watch most of her looks and try to study the details. She has not been repeating a similar algorithm or combination of any outfits a lot. It is really a style of someone who loves fashion in general, not certain styles of it and who picks the items that seem stylish, beautiful or interesting at that time.
Also I truly believe that Sarah Jessica genuinely enjoys most of the outfits that have been selected for her for this role, and the way she carries herself in them makes a big difference. I find some of her looks quite questionable, if you look at them outside of this show. They wouldn’t look as harmonic on somebody else or in another context, but Carrie manages to give the looks life and tell different stories with the help of them.
