The Royal Fashion of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge. (2) Pakistan Tour

May 15, 2021

The 2019 Pakistan Tour has been the most popular and successful tour of Duchess of Cambridge in terms of her fashion. In recent years we have seen a change in her style – Kate started to dress more formally and this is to no surprise as William and her are taking up more responsibilities as future King and Queen Consort and their tours have a great importance in relationships with countries.

Duchess is known to make gestures and pay tributes via her looks, and this tour was no exception. There have been numerous compliments to Pakistan national dresses, local designers and colors of the flag of Pakistan as well as inspiration from Princess Diana’s looks from her Royal Tours to the same country.

All outfits of Kate during the Tour had details of Pakistan traditional style. She has managed to bring a lot of modernity and her personal elegant style to the traditional looks, and it’s no doubt that she has inspired many women in Pakistan for fashion experiments.

  1. As a gesture to her host country Catherine stepped off the plane wearing a shalwar kameez in aqua, which had been custom- made by Catherine Walker. It was clear from her first look that the Duchess will accentuate national style of Pakistan in her tour wardrobe.
  2. Visit to College in Islamabad:  A traditional blue kurta and asymmetric dupatta – another traditional Pakistani outfit also made by local designer Maheen Khan paired with ornate earrings and a pair of blush pink flats from New Look.
  3. Another traditional outfit was chosen for the meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan at the Presidential Palace in Islamabad: another tribute to local designer Maheen Khan with trousers from his collection, a tunic by Catherine Walker, a dupatta by Satrangi and earrings by Zeen – also a local designer.
  4. Probably the most famous photo and looks of the Duke and the Duchess are from the reception hosted by the British High Commissioner to Pakistan. The couple has arrived in traditional Tuk Tuk in matching dark blue ensembles. Prince William has also received endorsement for his fashion choice in this engagement :  his sherwani buttoned coat was designed by Karachi-based designer Naushemian.  Kate  went with one of her favourite designers Jenny Packham for a sequined dress, not without traditional dupatta in the national colours and earrings from Onitaa local jewelry brand.
  5. In an attempt to highlight global warming and climate crisis the couple has visited Chiatibo glacier in North of Pakistan in Hindi Kush mountains. Catherine has chosen a very stylish cowboy look with the waistcoat from Really Wild paired with a slip skirt, shirt and boots. We don’t see Kate having fun with fashion very often as most of her looks are quite formal, so it was really exciting to watch her in this cowboy look. She didn’t miss to add a touch of Pakistani style – by adding dupatta and oriental style earrings from Misoma.
  6. Cream monochrome shalwar kameez with beautiful delicate embroidery paired with Gianvito Rossi suede heels which she later changed for sport shoes when playing cricket
  7. Turquoise shalwar kameez, by Maheen Khan with gold details and headscarf. This look was during her visit to the mosque.
  8. Most of the outfits of Kate during her visit were in green tones, paired with neutral colours. This green  teal dress from Aross Girl X Soler dress with earrings by Pakistani designer Zeen is the most characteristic for her style and is my favorite look of the Tour.

The choice of Maheen Khan by Catherine as the main designer for her royal wardrobe has caused huge sales for her brand and her popularity has sky rocketed. The jewelry brand Zeen has also hit the jackpot with Duchess wearing quiet a few pieces from the brand.
