Best Fashion Moments from Joe Biden’s Inauguration

January 23, 2021

With so few red carpet events in last year, all eyes have been on the politicians’ fashion choices since 2020. Joe Biden’s inauguration was probably the biggest event of 2021 , and was also a big fashion moment.

President Biden made his Inauguration Day entrance in a Ralph Lauren suit, coat and mask

Dr. Jill Biden, who will be the first, First Lady in the history of the US who will continue working in a paid job was in a blue tweed coat, dress and matching mask by Markarian – a brand founded only three years ago, by a young designer named Alexandra O’Neill.

First ladies are traditionally giving preference to American designers, and choice of a young and not largely famous designer was a lovely gesture by Dr. Biden. Alexandra is also a designer with a focus on sustainability, another Biden priority.

Ms. Harris, showcased the work of a young Black independent designers in each of her inaugural looks. She is the first female vice president and the first Black female vice president.

The first look, worn to the Covid memorial service, with the camel coat was created by Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss. A designer dedicated himself to putting Black Americans at the centre of the country’s culture.

He was amongst the first designers who organized distribution of PPE at the start of the pandemic. He has also been donating money for help to small businesses crushed by lockdown.

Next was the bright purple coat and dress at the swearing-in designed by Christopher John Rogers, paired with Ms. Harris’s signature pearls

Purple was the signature colour of inauguration

Michelle Obama, was wearing wide plum trousers belted with a gold buckle, coordinated turtleneck and coat, all also by Sergio Hudson.

The trend was also embraced by Hillary Clinton, who was head-to-toe in violet.

Many interpret it for being combination of the red and blue colours of the main American political parties, symbolizing unity of the country (the theme of inauguration was, after all, “America United’)

Although politicians were in the center of attention, there were a few significant celebrity fashion moments, such as Lady Gaga in a giant Schiaparelli ball gown and dove of peace brooch, Jennifer Lopez in snowy Chanel look from 2020 fall collection.

National Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman was in sunshine yellow Prada coat.

Senator Bernie Sanders’ viral mittens were as well one of the highlights of the ceremony and inspired hundreds of memes on social media 🙂

This was more than a restoration of norms, as Melania Trump was still giving preference to the European designers, going against long built tradition of First Ladies, supporting American designers.

Best look ofcourse after Mrs. Trump who left the White House in a symphony of European luxury labels: Chanel jacket, Dolce & Gabbana dress, Hermès bag.

She was looking stunning and Hollywood glamorous, just accelerating the scale of the change in the White House

She has changed during her flight to Florida to a colorful long Gucci dress symbolizing her freedom from First Lady duties.
