Chanel Spring-Summer 2021 Haute Couture Show

January 27, 2021

Despite France’s nationwide curfew, the upcoming haute couture fashion week is taking place on Jan 25-28 on digital platforms.

The Show

Traditionally Chanel shows happen at the Grand Palais, which gets transformed into different themes and becomes unrecognizable every time.

Even though the show has scaled down due to pandemic this year, it felt very special. It was designed in a floral wedding theme. The idea was to create an atmosphere of small family wedding somewhere in South of France. The white tent has added that sense very well along with hanging light bulbs and floral arches.

There wasn’t a big audience but the guests were all long-time friends of the fashion house: Penelope Cruz, Marion Cottillard, Vanessa Paradis and daughter Lily-Rose Depp and a few others.

The flow of the show was very subtle and graceful, starting with the models coming down the stairs, taking seats in the half empty hall once they have demonstrated their looks and finishing with the bride on the horse coming out of the tent.

The collection

The collection was full of sequins, lace dresses, floral applications, ruffles, floral wreaths and crowns – all creating a fairy tale summer wedding vibe

It is a very feminine and romantic bohemian collection.

At the final of the show, the bride made an appearance on a big white horse, in long dress in satin crepe, embroidered with pearl butterflies and had collars and cuffs inspired by 1920s. The overall collection has some 1920s vibes with long ruffled dresses, embroidered daisies and tango shoes.

Virginie Viard’s signature is showing through and it is more and more different from Lagerfeld, who was creating spectacular shows, re creating space ships and supermarkets. Virginie seems to have this feminine and maternal touch that brings a fresh breeze to the brand and marks new era after Lagerfeld.
