2012 Dior show is one of my favorites. I really love this show for the floral design and very feminine and elegant looks.
The show venue has been decorated with thousands of fresh flowers from floor to ceiling, framing the conservative collection perfectly. This show has been very important for Dior for various reasons. It was first collection of Raf Simons as new creative Director and was a start of the new era for Dior. John Galliano has recently been fired as a result of a huge scandal due to his anti Semitic remarks and many other reasons and the brand was facing PR issues, trying to recover its reputation. When Raf Simons took over he has drastically changed the direction of the brand. He was a complete opposite of John Galliano. His style was chic and minimalist and brought back traditional elegance to Dior. He has also made a lot of accent on the brand’s heritage which was the much needed message for that period.
This collection has not only been important for Dior house, but also for the fashion world . It is considered a start of new era of Parisian fashion houses. It brought back traditional elegance with a modern sense, sculptural lines, ease and chic to the podiums.
The first looks of the show were very classic and strict total black looks. We can see the well known “new look” silhouette which is a signature of Dior. It can be seen more obviously on the third picture below but you can notice it in most designs.

There is quite unique and interesting combination of colorful mini party dresses over black cigarette pants. These are considered more “youthful” styles of Dior.

Pockets have caught my attention in this collection. i think they are one of the detail that brings modernity and ease to the looks. Most of the looks were in one color. The red that we see below dresses in is called “Dior Red’
Another interesting detail is the repeating accessories. We can see the metallic belt that emphasizes the new look silhouette complimenting several looks and chokers.

I adore the way tweed has been used here. The strapless and suit dresses look very attractive and feminine and doesnt have the strictness and seniority that tweed can bring.

More colorful and decorated dresses started to make an appearance closer to the end of the show. Generally in most fashion shows, the items that take the most effort and skills to prepare are demonstrated at the end. That is why most of the shows end with bridal dresses.
