Style
Michelle Obama is one of the most stylish First Ladies in the history of the United States and certainly a very influential fashion icon worldwide. Her style has often been referred as “power dressing”, as it has been a large part of her public image of a powerful black woman.
Her stylist Meredith Koop played a big role in her establishment as a fashion icon.
There are no clear rules on how first lady should be dressing. Some basic guidelines are overall smart and conservative dress code; suits and pencil dresses; high heels and so on. There are also style icons like Jacky Kennedy, who have set the overall tone. Mrs. Obama has certainly added her own touch and changed the perception of First Lady’s Fashion forever. She was not afraid to dress feminine and pick beautiful looks in bright colors, prints and textures. Florals, sequins, large volumes, and irregular shapes have made her outfits really stand out.
Michelle Obama has been widely praised for accentuating her natural features. She has never tried to hide her height and has been proudly demonstrating her athletic arms and natural curls.
She set the fashion bar high with her head turning Jason Wu gown for the Inaugural Ball in 2009 and never seized to amaze the public with her stunning looks ever since. ( first and last photo in below gallery)

Her love affair with fashion has only grown with years. She became more courageous and open with her fashion looks as she stepped down as first lady and even outshined THE fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker with her total yellow Balenciaga look with sparkling boots. Once she stepped down as first lady , her style has evolved further. Having less limits for self expression, Michelle has proven to be a true fashion lover and icon. Her book tour has been especially remarkable in terms of her style: she demonstrated plenty of memorable looks in bright colors and catchy details.

Michelle Obama was in the center of attention not only as first African American first lady, but also due to the period that her role fell into. It was the rise of social media when every public appearance was available on Instagram for commenting and sharing without any limits or censorship. The content of the engagements that the first lady carried out might not have been as widely known to the public, but the images from every event have been in the spotlight, even for a matter of few seconds.
