Royal Dress Code at Funerals

Royal Dress Code From Prince Philip’s Funeral:

April 27, 2021
  • Senior male royals were not wearing their military uniforms to the funeral of Prince Philip, breaking the royal traditions. It is speculated that the reason for this was Prince Andrew and Prince Harry not being able to wear their uniforms as they have lost their military titles and the Queen didn’t want the family to be divided on this day. All senior male royal members were wearing mourning suits and medals instead.
  • Jewelry of the female royal members – there have been numerous discussion on appropriateness of the jewelry on such occasion – especially around Kate Middleton’s diamond and pearl choker which was quite eye catching. Duchess of Cambridge is known for her devotion to royal dress code traditions, so it is safe to say if she was wearing a piece of spectacular jewelry, it is in best royal traditions. She also paid a number of tributes by wearing this piece in particular: Duchess of Cambridge has previously worn the choker to the wedding anniversary of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in 2017. The necklace is from Queen’s collection and has been worn by her Majesty to numerous occasions. It has also been lent to Princess Diana in the past for one of her engagement as well. The pearl choker was originally gifted to the Queen from Japan in the 1970s. Queen Elizabeth has also accompanied her total black look with a diamond brooch.
  • Fascinators and hats worn by all senior female royals – Another dress code protocol that has been followed by all the ladies.
